South Boston, also known as “Southie” is located just South of the Boston’s Waterfront and East of Boston’s South End. It is very large in size and for that there are many micro neighborhoods within, hence why Southie is more neighborhood-like than anywhere else in the city. However, not to be mistaken by its innocent description, South Boston is also complimented by local pubs and happening restaurants.
South Boston is well-known to be the most vibrant and prominent Irish neighborhood in Boston if not the United States, which is highlighted by the oldest St Patrick’s Day Parade in the world held every 17th of March.
South Boston property value has been on an upswing over the last 10 years, especially in the City Point district but it is still significantly cheaper than neighboring parts of Boston to the North. It is a great neighborhood for a first time home buyer, investor, or family, because the dollar/sq. foot is one of the lowest in the city while trends are pointing up.
